Lecture 3 : Applications, Definitions, and Nature of Power Electronic Circuits

In this lecture, the application and relevance of power electronics to various fields are highlighted.Many definitions of power electronics are provided to enhance the understanding. Concept of switching matrix to represent a power converter is introduced. Basic nature of a power electronic ‘switch’ is discussed. The concept of representing a power converter circuit by a variable impedance network is brought out and explained.
